Conflict resolution training

Please note all of our course are tailored to suit - below is a sample outline for a 'typical' 2-day course

Introduction:  In leadership we can be guaranteed that we will come across conflict. An effective leader is one who possesses the ability to know how to skilfully manage conflict and bring about a positive outcome. Up to 30-40% of a typical managers time can be spent dealing with conflict. Senior Executives report spending up to 20% of their time in litigation activities involving issues such as harassment and wrongful dismissal.

In this seminar you will learn how to:

  • Resolve conflict in professional or work situations

  • Improve your communication and interpersonal skills

  • Develop exceptional negotiation and mediation skills

Workshop Aim: To provide participants with a thorough understanding of workplace conflict resolution theory, methods and strategies.

Length: Two-days

Workshop Objectives

  • To develop understanding that conflict is a natural and necessary part of life, and that how one responds to conflict determines if the outcomes are constructive or destructive
  • To develop an awareness that competition & collaboration are the two main strategies for resolving conflict and for negotiation
  • To develop awareness of one's own tendencies in thinking about and responding to conflict
  • To understand when to use the best conflict resolution method (e.g.: avoidance, negotiation, mediation, arbitration, litigation or force)
  • To effectively distinguish positions from needs
  • To understand cultural differences that affect the conflict resolution process
  • To develop skills in active listening, using ‘I’ messages and appropriate assertiveness

Competencies Developed

Participants will develop the following competencies:

  • Use effective communication to resolve workplace conflict situations
  • Skills to overcome deadlock & generate movement
  • To be able to reframe conflict so that it can be resolved collaboratively
  • An ability to handle anger in self & others
  • Help teams and groups to reach consensus
  • Reduce Groupthink in teams
  • Learn how and when mediation is appropriate
  • Understand the positive and negative aspects of workplace conflict

Methods: case study, small group work, facilitated exercises and feedback to facilitate learning.
